“Have a Nice Meal” — a quiet preparation for resilience in uncertain times.

Over the past year, vawongsir has shared meals with those who, like him, cannot return home: Chinese dissidents involved in the White Paper Movement, asylum seekers in refugee shelters, Ukrainians displaced by war, and others who cannot or choose not to go back.

Through these intimate gatherings, he explores their evolving sense of "home." These meals become more than moments of nostalgia — they are quiet acts of resistance and gestures toward an uncertain future. Here, food serves as both a bridge between personal memory and collective struggle, and a language of defiance spoken without words.
