“I miss home, and I really wish that you could let me come to your home and have a meal of the home-cooked comfort food that I've been longing for.”

Embarking on a new chapter in Taiwan, vawongsir discovered that he was still trapped in the shadows of exile. Purposefully constructing a comfort zone, he compelled himself to adapt to his new life. While initially harboring intentions to resume drawing about Taiwanese politics, the 9-in-1 local elections last year revealed his lack of insight into the intricacies of Taiwanese politics and public sentiments. In an effort to transcend the lingering shadows and navigate through the pangs of homesickness for familiar home-cooked dishes during festivals, as well as to assimilate into Taiwanese culture and grasp the perspectives of local residents, vawongsir initiated the Chopsticks+ art project, where he visits Taiwanese households and creates family portraits as a token of appreciation for the meal.

In less than a year, the author has visited nearly 50 Taiwanese families to dine with others. He have visited various places in Taiwan, including Taipei, central and southern regions, and the eastern area. He met with street performers, Golden Melody Award winners, spiritual mentors, young people living far from their hometowns, wine brewers, and others, all with different political stances. Through conversations during meals and the interactions brought about by subsequent artwork, the author gained insights into the attitudes of the general Taiwanese public and gradually resolved the conflicts within themselves, embarking on a journey of self-healing.
